This isn't the Philadelphia Zoo by any stretch, but it isn't who they're trying to be. It's an excellent small zoo and for the most part the animals seem really happy (everyone but the alligator, who was in a depressing enclosure). Inexpensive to visit and my 18 month old loved it. I highly recommend a visit.
This zoo doesn't come close to the ones in Philadelphia.
A smaller zoo with limited animals but it does offer a cozy atmosphere for young children to go for a 2 hour experience. Giraffe and jaguars along with the bald eagles were the animals that were interesting. The new exhibits were under construction. The kids had some fun at the play area. Free parking is nice.
I have a two year old and his grandparents gifted us a membership. We go here at least once a week and my son loves it! Just know that not everything is open during the off season, sometimes the rides, feeding the animals, or certain food booths are closed. We don't typically do those, though, so it doesn't bother me. We usually play on the (beautiful) playground until he gets tired and then walk around and look at animals. The animals are very well cared for and the staff are all super nice and knowledgeable. You get a sense that they love their jobs! Also they take care of the grounds and landscaping, keep it clean and pristine looking. I recommend this place to all my friends we just love it!
The best zoo by far in this area! As you get older Zoos can be slightly sad. The animals seem down and it just breaks my heart BUT this Zoo is NOT like that at all! I stopped going to Zoos because they made me feel sad specially because I love animals so much. I know they help but you get it anyway, the animals here are happy and playful. They have less off a cage feeling to the way they have the animals loving and more of a out in the wilderness feel. I actually feel excited to go here and I lost all interest in zoos. So thank you Elmwood Zoo. I'm glad I can see the animals I love but also know and see that they are happy and content. Plus they have so many extras like Zip lining and they even have an outdoor bar area for the parents. They are most known for being able to feed the giraffes but you can actually feed other animals as well! I highly recommend this Zoo I went on Labor Day and it was so much fun! I can't wait to go back next season and try the zip lining!
Well run place with friendly staff. They have a nice selection of animals for a small zoo. Also, a perfect size place for your toddler to walk around without being overwhelmed.
